Sociology Department

Sociology is the youngest of the Social Sciences. It is the science of society, whose major concern is sociological analysis.  The scope and its focus is identical with no other sciences. As a discipline it has placed high importance to method of research, therefore it has its own areas of study or fields of inquiry. The Department of Sociology at Rayburn College was established in 2012. It educates students to understand social structures, social processes, social dynamics and social change in their own social context. The department believes in all-round development of its students. Apart from academic lectures and classroom discussions, the department engage its students in presentations, seminars, workshops, field trips and excursions.

To equip students with knowledge by providing value-based quality education, to provide methodological and theoretical insights to enable students to analyse society and its dynamics, to produce academically-oriented, socially sensitive and responsible citizens.

For the year 2015

  1. Intra class discussion and paper presentation on the topic “Youth unrest and Agitations in Manipur” was organised for Honours students towards the end of the session i.e. April.
  2. Write up and paper presentation on different “Theories of Population” was held by the 5th semester students.

For the year 2016

  1. Paper presentation activity was organised for the 4th Semester students on “Max Weber’s perspective on Bureaucracy” in the month of April.
  2. On 6th October Departmental seminar on the topic “Peace Studies: A Traditional Method of Conflict Resolution” was conducted, both General students of 1st and 3rd semester as well as Honours students of 5th semester participated in the seminar.
  3. Paper presentation and Assignment activity with 1st Semester Students on the topic ‘Family Institution of (any community in Churachandpur)’ was conducted.

For the year 2017

  1. Group assignment was given to 4th Semester students on the topic ‘Emergence and Development of Sociology in India’ during the month of March.
  2. Group discussion activity was held on the topic ‘Child Abuse: Types and Causes’ with Honours students of 6th
  3. On 6th October One Day Inter-Departmental seminar was organised on the topic “Socio-Economic Issues in Churachandpur: Problems and Prospects” with Commerce and Geography Department. All Honours Students of the three departments are participated in the seminar.

For the year 2018

  1. On 16th February paper presentation activity was organised for 4th semester students on the topic ‘Karl Marx on Class conflict’.
  2. Group paper presentation was organised for 3rd Semester students on the topic ‘Exchange Theory of Peter Blau’ in the month of October.
  3. Paper presentation and class discussion was organised on the topic ‘Role of Political Parties in Modern Democracy (India) with 5th semester students.
  4. With 1st semester students, group paper presentation activity was conducted on Family/Marriage/Kinship institutions of any Community in Churachandpur.

For the year 2019

  1. Intra class discussion on “Nature and impact of abusable Drugs” was organised for 6th semester students.
  2. 6th Semester Honours students along with their supervisors went to Shillong, Meghalaya for an Academic tour from 30th March to 6th They visited places like Don Bosco Museum, Mawlynnong village – cleanest village in Asia and NEHU University.
  3. Paper presentation was conducted for 3rd Semester students on the topic “Functionalism of Talcott Parsons” during the first week of July.
  4. Paper presentation activity on the topic “Local self government: Nature, power and Functions” was organised for 5th semester Sociology Students in November.
