Psychology Department

The Department of Psychology was established in the academic year 2020-2021 to cater to the demand to offer specialization in Psychology to undergraduate students. The department promote a high-quality teaching-learning experience, mentoring and an orientation towards research and skill building through the curriculum as well as through co-curricular activities undertaken by the department. It also commits to help students explore the field of Psychology within and beyond the syllabus. Prominent among them is the use of classroom discussions, presentation, seminars, workshops, field work studies, interaction with field experts, film-based discussion and laboratory trainings.

Other than teaching, the faculty members are interested in expansion and development of the subject and have undertaken various research projects, they are also members of various professional associations, and participate in different seminars, workshops and conferences at the national and international level. The faculty members are also actively involved in different committees like Grievance Cell Committee, National Service Scheme (NSS), Counselling and Guidance, Skill Development and Women Development Cell. They have and wish to take further trainings and workshop related to teaching and the discipline.

The Department of Psychology aspires for excellence both in academics and overall development of students and staffs. The department aims at promoting scientific proficiency within the interdisciplinary field of psychology, grooming the students to be mentally and physically healthy, considerate to other individuals, ability to apply their knowledge of psychological science as a responsible citizen.

  1. To instill value-based education with an aim to help needy students.
  2. To nurture students to develop self-confidence, empathy, sensibility and responsibility.
  3. To promote diversity of viewpoints and experiences; and treat all individuals with dignity and respect.
  4. To promote analytical abilities by encouraging students to conduct quality-related research studies as part of their papers.
  5. To train the students to be adaptable to the emerging ideas and systems, and capable enough to carry their knowledge into their everyday interactions.
  6. Planning to celebrate “Psychology fest” by organizing talks from well-known experts in our discipline and other activities.

Future Plans of the department

  1. Short term courses on Basic Counselling skills.
  2. Personality development of the students and faculty.
  3. Conducting more workshops relating to the theories of Psychology to adapt the students both academically and practically.
