English Department

The Department of English, Rayburn College was established in the year 2010. At present, the Department comprises of 5 faculty positions engaged at the Undergraduate level. The Department has produced several University Rank Holders in the Manipur University Examinations till date. In 2014, Ms. TINPINENG secured the prestigious 7th Position. In 2016, Ms. NEIHLIANCHING secured the 10th Position. In 2018, Mr. SAMUEL P. KHAMMUONLIEN secured the 8th Position. In 2021, 4th, 5th, 6th positions were bagged by Ms. LINDA LALRAMMAWI, Ms. CHINGNGAIHMUANG & Ms. DIMHOIHKIM respectively.

English as a Paper at the Undergraduate level (Elective English Paper in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th  Semesters and the Honours Paper in 5th,6th Semester under Manipur University) takes a discursive course vividly into the world of canonical English Literature, Language and Linguistics. The General English Paper at the Undergraduate level (1st & 2nd Semesters, BA/BSC/BCOM) introduces the ethics of English Grammar, Comprehension & Language-Communication skills.

The Department strongly believes in the all-round development of its students. Apart from academic lectures and classroom discussions, the Department engages its students in movie screenings (related to the syllabus), paper-presentations, seminars, workshops, educational visits and excursions.

The vision of the Department is to equip the students’ knowledge through a value-based quality education & an in-depth understanding of Literature and Language. To inculcate methodological and theoretical insights that may enable students in interpreting life through literature and thought. To empower a creative faculty which may help analyse the self at first, then towards others and the society at large. To encourage an academic-research oriented atmosphere, breeding socially sensitive and responsible citizens in future.
