Professor  Salam Irene Singh

Brief Outline of Activities: Have been teaching in the University since 1978. In charge of specialization in Medieval Indian History at Post-graduate, M. Phil and Ph. D. levels. Have presented papers and attended seminars/workshops at state, regional, national and international forums. Have delivered lectures in all the UGC eight refreshers courses for college lecturers organized b y the Department of History, and also in the Department of Political Science. I currently have a number o scholars working under my supervision for M. Phil and Ph. D.

 

In the field of community service, I have been engaged in counseling and administration in the field of drug use and harm minimization. I also work voluntarily as a counselor for youth, and am also engaged in work aimed at women’s empowerment. I have delivered lectures at a finishing school run by Don Bosco, Imphal and at a coaching centre for Manipur Public Service Commission Exams. I had been selected as a member of the NGO Team on Health for India at the NGO Forum at Beijing 1995, for the 4th UN World Conference on Women. I ran a workshop on ‘AIDS in Third World Perspective’ and contributed a paper for the NGO Book on health at the Beijing Conference. I have served as a nominated executive member for 5 years of the Asian Harm Reduction Network, Chiangmai, Thailand, and for the International Harm Reduction Association, U.K. I have participated in an International Project on ‘Resilience Amongst Youth’ run by Dalhousie University Nova, Scotia, Canada.
