Rayburn College hosted a two-day training programme on Mental Health, organized by the Directorate of University and Higher Education (DUHE), Manipur on the 3rd and 4th of February, 2026. The programme was conducted with the objective of strengthening mental health awareness, early identification, and support mechanisms within higher education institutions.
The programme was attended by 15 participants from Rayburn College, Lamka College, and Churachandpur College. Resource persons from the Psychiatry Department under the State Health Mission facilitated the sessions, offering expert inputs that combined theoretical understanding with practical, campus-oriented approaches.
The training covered a wide range of relevant and contemporary topics, including an introduction to mental health and mental health promotion, prevalence of mental health disorders, substance use and its impact on mental well-being, suicide risk identification and crisis response in campus settings, digital mental health with emphasis on healthy and problematic internet use, stress management, and basic counselling skills such as effective and empathetic communication. Sessions also focused on reducing mental health stigma, promoting help-seeking behaviour, self-care for teachers, and familiarization with screening questionnaires and referral pathways to available mental health services at the State and District levels.
The training concluded successfully, marking an important step towards strengthening mental health promotion and support systems within college campuses.
