One-Day Seminar on Introduction To Chemistry Laboratory, Best Practices & Safety, Handling Of Sensitive Instruments

The Department of Chemistry, Rayburn College, organized a One-Day Seminar on "Introduction to Chemistry Laboratory, RBC, Best Practices & Safety, and Handling of Sensitive Instruments" on 24th July 2026 in the Chemistry Laboratory. The seminar was attended by 25 participants, including undergraduate students and faculty members. The programme aimed to familiarize students with the college laboratory facilities while promoting laboratory safety, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and the proper handling of sensitive scientific instruments.

The seminar featured three technical sessions delivered by the faculty of the Department of Chemistry. Ms. Angela Ramtharmawi introduced the Chemistry Laboratory and its facilities, Dr. Ching Thian Moi discussed laboratory best practices and safety protocols, and Mr. Zenhoihmuan, Head of the Department, demonstrated the correct handling and maintenance of sensitive laboratory instruments.

The sessions emphasized the importance of using personal protective equipment (PPE), proper chemical management, adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), equipment calibration, waste management, and post-use maintenance of laboratory instruments. Students actively participated in discussions and interacted with the resource persons, making the seminar both informative and engaging. The programme concluded with refreshments and the election of semester class representatives.
