Observance of World Wildlife Day “Medicinal and Aromatic Plants: Conserving Health, Heritage and Livelihood.”

The Department of Zoology, Rayburn College, organized a programme on 3rd March 2026 at 1:00 PM to observe World Wildlife Day under the theme “Medicinal and Aromatic Plants: Conserving Health, Heritage and Livelihood.” The event aimed to raise awareness about wildlife conservation and the importance of medicinal plants.

The programme began with registration, followed by a welcome address from Sir Samuel Jeremy Gangte, who highlighted the significance of biodiversity conservation. The event was moderated by Miss Niang Sial Ching.

A key highlight was the Poster Presentation Competition, where nine teams presented on various medicinal plants such as Aloe vera, turmeric, ginger, and drumstick tree, focusing on their uses and conservation. The session was interactive, with students confidently presenting and answering questions.

The judges, Dr. Kh Thiamminlian Vaiphei, Dr. Hnunlalani, and Miss Grace Chinghoihnuam, evaluated the presentations. The winners were:
• 1st Prize: Turmeric team
• 2nd Prize: Drumstick tree team
• 3rd Prize: Soursop team

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Miss Thanghmingliani, followed by refreshments. Overall, the event was informative and successfully promoted awareness and student participation.
