Observance of Chemistry Week 2025

The Department of Chemistry, Rayburn College, successfully organised the Observance of Chemistry Week 2025 on October 31st at 2:00 PM in the College Conference Hall. The theme for this year, “Chemistry Everywhere: From Lab to Life,” highlighted the importance of chemistry in everyday activities and modern scientific advancements.

The programme was hosted by Esther Niengzoukim and Paulawmsang, who guided the event smoothly. It began with an opening prayer led by Sir Minlun, Chaplain of Rayburn College, setting a solemn and encouraging tone for the programme. Nianlalnem, Class Representative of the 3rd Semester, then delivered the welcome address and introduced the special invitees.

The highlight of the event was an insightful talk by Dr. Siamkhanthang Neihsial, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Dhanamanjuri University, Imphal. His presentation on “Water as Fuel: The Future of Cars and Its Challenges” offered students an engaging look into hydrogen energy, sustainable fuel alternatives, and the scientific hurdles that need to be addressed.

The event continued with a competitive and interactive Quiz Competition conducted by Ms. Angela Ramtharmawi, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry, Rayburn College. Students showcased their knowledge and enthusiasm for chemistry through active participation.

A Poster Making and Presentation session followed, allowing students to creatively express scientific concepts related to the theme. Participants displayed well-designed posters accompanied by brief explanations.

A short but encouraging speech was delivered by Ma’am Kimneichoi, Assistant Professor, Chemistry Department, Churachandpur Government College. She motivated the students to cultivate curiosity and pursue deeper understanding in the field of chemical sciences.

Adding a fun and engaging element, Henlunlal Vaiphei (3rd Semester CR) presented the “Science for Stupid Show,” which combined humour with simple scientific demonstrations and received enthusiastic response from the audience.

The results of the competitions were then announced, celebrating the achievements of the winners. The programme concluded with a photo session, capturing memorable moments of the celebration, followed by a heartfelt Vote of Thanks delivered by Ms. Zenhoihmuan, HOD, Department of Chemistry, appreciating the contributions of guests, faculty, students, and organisers.
