Career Guidance in Life Sciences

The Department of Zoology, Rayburn College, organized an Interactive Session on “Career Guidance in Life Sciences” on 31st October 2025 at 1:00 p.m. The event aimed to provide students with valuable insights into academic and professional opportunities in the field of life sciences.

The programme was hosted by Miss Thanghmingliani, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology. It began with a Welcome Address by Miss Niang Sial Ching, HOD, Department of Zoology, followed by introduction of the Resource Person, Mr. Thangzuanlian Langel, Research Assistant/Scientist at The Pirbright Institute, Woking, Surrey, United Kingdom.

Mr. Langel delivered an inspiring talk on various career paths available in life sciences, highlighting opportunities for higher education, research, and international collaboration. He also shared insights into his ongoing research project titled “Development of a Broadly Protective Influenza Vaccine for Humans and Livestock,” which focuses on developing cross-protective vaccines to prevent influenza outbreaks among humans and animals. His presentation gave students a valuable glimpse into cutting-edge scientific research and its global significance.

The session was attended by all Zoology students of Rayburn College from the 1st, 3rd, and 5th semesters, who actively participated in the Q&A session, moderated by Miss Thanghmingliani. The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Dr. Hnunlalliani, Assistant Professor, Department of Zoology, followed by refreshments.

Overall, the programme was highly informative and engaging, providing students with practical knowledge and motivation to pursue careers and research in the life sciences.
