The MycoWalk was organised by the Rayburn College Botanic Club at Suangdoh Village, Churachandpur District, Manipur on 2nd October 2026, with the aim of exploring and documenting the diversity of mushrooms in their natural habitats. The programme provided students with an opportunity to learn about fungi through direct field observation and to understand their significance in maintaining ecological balance.
The MycoWalk provided students with valuable hands-on experience in mycology, enhancing their practical knowledge of mushroom diversity, field observation, and specimen documentation. It also helped deepen their understanding of the ecological significance of fungi, particularly their roles in decomposition, nutrient cycling, and the maintenance of healthy ecosystems. During the walk, a total of 56 wild mushroom specimens representing different species were collected from Suangdoh Village. These collections provide valuable material for further morphological examination, identification, and documentation of the local fungal diversity.
Overall, the MycoWalk at Suangdoh Village was a valuable field-based learning activity that encouraged students to appreciate the rich biodiversity of the region and recognise the importance of fungi in nature. The programme also provided a foundation for future studies on mushroom diversity, conservation, and the potential applications of fungi in Churachandpur District, Manipur.
