The Department of Geography, Rayburn College (Autonomous), conducted an academic field survey on 03-10-2026 at Gelmol, Churachandpur, involving Semester III UG students from both Geography Major and Minor, accompanied by faculty members.
The field study provided students with hands-on exposure to the geological and geomorphological characteristics of the area. Key features observed included bedding in shale and other sedimentary rocks, Skolithos trace fossils, joints, and diverse weathering processes - physical, chemical, and biological. Students also practiced field identification, observation, and recording of these features under faculty guidance.
The fieldwork offered a valuable opportunity to connect classroom knowledge with real-world geological evidence, strengthening students’ practical skills and understanding of Earth-surface processes.
