Faith and Academics – Series 1

The Campus Ministry Club of Rayburn College organized Faith and Academics – Series 1 on 23rd September 2026, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Rayburn College Auditorium. The programme was organized to help students understand the relationship between Christian faith, academic learning, and their future calling.

The programme began with an invocation and welcome address by Miss Thanghmingliani, Department of Zoology, followed by the introduction of the speaker by Miss Zenhoihmuan, HOD, Department of Chemistry. The session was led by Dr. Chingnunsiam, Dental Surgeon.

In her presentation, Dr. Chingnunsiam emphasized the importance of integrating faith with academics. She explained that academic pursuit is a gift from God and should not be viewed merely as a burden, but as a means of understanding God’s creation and fulfilling one’s calling. She encouraged students to see their academic life through the framework of “Faith + Academics + Calling” and also introduced Abraham Kuyper’s concept of Sphere Sovereignty in relation to education and Christian engagement in society.

To illustrate the integration of faith and academics, she referred to several prominent Christians, including Isaac Newton, Edward Jenner, Dr. Paul Brand, William Carey, and C. S. Lewis. Their lives demonstrated how faith, intellectual pursuits, professional knowledge, and service can be brought together for the glory of God and the benefit of society.

She further emphasized the need to redeem academia by bringing academic knowledge and professional life under God’s purposes. According to her, integrating faith and academics can help produce compassionate thinkers, provide meaningful solutions to societal challenges, and enable Christians to become effective witnesses in their respective fields.

Dr. Chingnunsiam concluded by encouraging students to pursue their studies with discipline and excellence, remembering that their work is ultimately service to God. She encouraged them to be good students of both God’s world and God’s Word, and to let their faith be reflected in their academic and professional lives.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks and closing prayer led by Liansuanthang H., Chaplain and Counsellor, Rayburn College. The session provided students with an opportunity to reflect on how their Christian faith can meaningfully shape their academic pursuits, future professions, and service to society.
