The field trip to S. Geltui, organised by the Zoology Department of Rayburn College on 17th November 2025, began with inspiring words of encouragement from the Vice-Principal, Dr. Kh. Thianminlian Vaiphei, followed by a briefing from Miss Niang Sial Ching on the rules and safety guidelines for the trip. Miss Thanghmingliani then guided the students on how to prepare their field reports, record specimens, and maintain proper documentation.
Equipped with tools such as insect nets, gloves, specimen jars, magnifying glasses, and BOD bottles, the students of the 1st, 3rd, and 5th semesters departed at 10:00 am and arrived at Geltui around 11:00 am, reaching the designated study site by 11:30 am. There, they began collecting a wide variety of specimens, including different butterfly species, dragonfly species, grasshoppers, and other small invertebrates, while also conducting habitat observations and water sampling. Students recorded environmental conditions, species data, and ecological interactions throughout the session.
The specimens collected during the trip were scheduled to be preserved the following day in the laboratory using dry and wet preservation techniques. The group returned to the college at around 4:00 pm, enriched with practical experience that strengthened their understanding of zoological concepts and fulfilled their academic requirements.
