Awareness programme on Gender Discrimination and PC-PNDT Act

An awareness programme on Gender Discrimination and the PC-PNDT Act was organised on 17th October 2025 at the Conference Hall of Rayburn College, Gangpimual. The event was jointly organised by the District Health Society, the District Family Welfare Officer, and the Women Development Cell of Rayburn College, as part of the International Girl Child Week awareness campaign.

The Keynote Address was delivered by Dr. Kh. Sania Monica, DFWO/DNO PC-PNDT, Churachandpur, who emphasised the significance of protecting the rights of the girl child and promoting gender equity through legal and community-based interventions.

The Chief Guest, Dr. T. Vanlalkungi, Chief Medical Officer, Churachandpur, and the Guest of Honour, Dr. Kh. Thianminlian Vaiphei, Vice Principal, Rayburn College highlighted the importance of strengthening institutional and community efforts to uphold the PC-PNDT Act and prevent gender-biased practices.

A special recognition and felicitation of women with only daughters was led by Ms. Lhingzalam Haokip, Convenor, Women Development Cell, Rayburn College. The gesture aimed to honour and encourage women who challenge gender stereotypes and contribute to shifting societal perceptions regarding the girl child.

A legal lecture was delivered by Advocate Elin Biete, Associates, E&M Consultancy, who provided a comprehensive overview of the PC-PNDT Act, its objectives, legal implications, and the need for strict compliance.

An interactive quiz on Gender Discrimination, Women Empowerment, and the PC-PNDT Act was also conducted to engage participants and reinforce key messages. Ten students who performed exceptionally well in the quiz were awarded prizes in recognition of their participation and knowledge.

The programme concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Mr. Seiboi Mate, District Data Manager, NHM Churachandpur, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, organisers, participants, and stakeholders for their support and contributions to the successful conduct of the event.

The programme served as an important platform to raise awareness on gender-based discrimination, promote women’s empowerment, and strengthen the implementation of legal frameworks to protect the rights of the girl child.
