
The International Day of Sign Languages 2025 was observed on the 23rd of September 2025 at Rayburn College Auditorium, organized by the Centre for Community Initiative (CCI) in collaboration with Rayburn College.
The program featured a powerful message from Ms. Khawlching of Class X, The Malsawm Initiative (a school for children with special needs), who highlighted the importance of sign language for persons with hearing impairment and even taught basic signs to the audience.
The event also witnessed the debut of The BandAbles, a group of visually impaired musicians, and the release of the music video “Hihtheihdan Tuam Chiat” by Khumlalven (Class X, TMI) and Ms. Chingnunhoih Guite. The significant music video was launched by Pu Rev. Dr. Khen P. Tombing, Principal, Rayburn College.
The launching was followed by a soulful live performance by Khumlalven, with the crowd joining in the lively celebration. The program was closed with a vote of thanks from the Director, CCI.
Rayburn College has collaborated with Centre for Community Initiative since the academic year 2024-25 to introduce ‘Special Education’ as a credited Value Added Course. The course includes the following important topics:
(a) Introduction to Disabilities
(b) Early Identification and Intervention
(c) Various Forms of Communication
(d) Disability Inclusion
(e) Experiential Learning
