To mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, a one-day awareness program titled “Drug Abuse Prevention” was held on 27th June 2027 at 11:00 AM in the Mini Conference Hall of Rayburn College. The event was organized by Social Care Ministry and facilitated by Rayburn College.
The program commenced with a brief welcome address, highlighting the significance of the international day and the need for continuous dialogue and awareness around the issue of drug abuse, especially among youth.
The session was led by the Resource , Mr. Lalbiaktluanga, Project Coordinator, SCM, who delivered a powerful and insightful talk on the dangers of drug abuse and its wide-ranging effects on physical health, mental well- being, family life, and society.
He emphasized the importance of early intervention, peer support, awareness, and preventive education, especially within schools and colleges. He also stressed the need for community involvement and removing the stigma associated with substance use disorders, so individuals can seek help without fear or shame.
As part of the awareness initiative, an Elocution Competition was also conducted. The competition aimed to give students a platform to voice their understanding, views, and personal reflections on drug prevention.
The observance of International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, 2025 at Rayburn College served as an important reminder of the urgency to educate and empower young minds in the fight against substance abuse. Through engaging talks and student-led presentations, the event successfully created awareness, encouraged critical thinking, and promoted a collective responsibility toward building a drug-free society.
